Mid-year reflections

How fast time flies.  I can't believe we're more than halfway the year 2008 already.  Moreover, if I were to do the Christmas countdown, it's only 144 days before Christmas day.  I can already feel the cold air although it's because of the rain that we are experiencing right now.

So, how was my 2008 so far? Nothing earth-shattering or life changing has happened yet. Maybe, the best accomplishment I've done so far is being able to enter graduate school and work at the same time.  I also do a little, no...make that a lot of fangirling at the side which pretty much keeps me occupied.  I know I should concentrate on my readings and all but when I am researching and answering my emails, I always receive something that is Dong Bang related.  It will be the boys' fault if ever I fail in my subjects. No! That cannot be.  Funny blaming the boys for that.  It's obviously not their fault but my lack of discipline...always giving in to their music and good looks. haha!

Anyway, I do hope it's not yet too late to change for this year.  I was reading an acquiantance's blog and she is always busy doing worthwhie things. She juggles studying in law school, hosting a television show, having lovelife and doing her job as a beauty queen.  I am envious because she has the discipline to do those things.  But if she can do it, I can too.  I just need a lot of will power and prayers.  I am positive that I can excel in everything I do because God is my boss and teacher and He does not deserve anything less than the best.

Untimely "Alay Lakad"

A transport strike was held at southern tagalog today and I was one of their victims.  Yes, I considered myself as a victim because I was forced to do something that I don't want to do and that is to walk 3 kilometers to the bus stop to be able to get to work.

I don't want to call those groups selfish because they do have a legitimate reason for doing such but still, it should not be at the expense of other people. I was late for work because of that and I need to leave early because I had class later this afternoon.

They prevented other tricycle drivers from plying their route and the drivers had no choice but to drop us halfway. It's either I go home back walking or go to the bus stop -- walking.  Obviously, I chose the latter. Right now, I can count 2 blisters on my right foot and one on my left foot because I was wearing high heels today.

I am not the only one complaining.  Some tricycle drivers don't want to participate either because their families will go hungry. Meager their income may be, they will at least have money to buy food for today.

I am not totally unsympathetic but I am getting tired of all these transport strikes.  The government is just turning a deaf ear to their plea to remove the evat to lower the oil prices.  I know the transport sector is the most affected with the increase of the oil prices but can't they think of the students who are trying to budget their allowance because of the recent fare increase or the office workers who are working their butts off just so they can pay their bills? We are having a hard time too.  If we absent ourselves because we don't have any transportation, we too have lost a one-day income which we could have used for our necessities.

I'd rather work and try to cope with the hard times rather than complain.

Pinoy Celebrity Crush

Contrary to popular belief, I do have Filipino celebrity crushes aside from my Korean oppas and one of them is JC de Vera. hahaha! I have seen him in his other dramas but I didn't realize how good looking he was until I saw him in Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita. There's this one particular scene where Yasmin Kurdi was taking revenge on Marvin Agustin because of what he did to her in the past and then Marvin asked her who was helping her because she cannot do it alone.  JC then entered the picture and he said that it was him.  I really liked him in that particular scene. I don't know why...maybe because he does not look like a gangster when in fact he is a gangster or rather, jueteng lord in that drama.

I got the chance to take pictures of him while he was taping for Sis...sorry for the stalkerish quality...hahaha! I was in the second floor so I had to zoom in which caused a lot of noise in the pic.

Here's a sample...

Sang Woo's getting married!!!

So it's finally confirmed. My ultimate Korean crush Kwon Sang Woo will be getting married this September.

Yeah I know he's of the right age and all but it still came to a shock for us fans.  We didn't even know that he had a girl and then he suddenly drops this bomb over our heads. We should have taken the hint during his interviews when he said that he wanted to get married this year.

The lucky girl, Sohn Tae Young, was former Ms. Korea.  According to what I've read, she's allegedly a playgirl. What!?! I do hope Kwon Sang Woo will be the last man in her life.  We don't want to have his heart broken you know.  It is very obvious that he loves her even though they've been together for less than a year.

I want to make it clear that I did not fantasize getting married to him ever but it is still hard to accept. I just hope he is happy with his decision.

So yeah, congratulations to the couple.

*cries at the corner.*

Graveyard Shift

It's six o'clock in the morning and I've been in the office for five and a half hours already.  In as much as I love to go to the office at 12:00 mn, I fear the long day ahead of me.  I have classes at 12:30 in the afternoon til 3:30 and I don't want to fall asleep listening to my classmate's report.  By 11:00 in the morning, I will be awake for 24 hours already.

There's nothing much to do during my shift since we don't have an early morning newscast during the weekend.  Even the evil doers seem to realize this so they just take a rest and do their crimes early Monday morning just in time for UB.  It was my first time spending this shift alone and they had to let me out for an hour because they sprayed lysol all over our office.  I didn't know its smell could be so repulsive.  Its 1000x more than a bathroom deodorant.

I also wore my new, dorky eyeglasses today.  My officemate said I look like a Korean. Yey!mission accomplished on that. The style of my eyeglasses is considered nerdy by some but I like it because it looks like Junsu and Jaejoong's eyeglasses. hahaha!  I even ironed my hair because I have extra time before going to the office and combed my so-called bangs.  One of my jokes was I wore eyeglasses today because I want to see if a ghost is already headed my way. Not that I actually want to see one.

Two hours more and I'll be off... I do hope I can find a place to cat nap.  Hmmm...the library perhaps? Or maybe, a cup of coffee will suffice. Get ready for panda eyes!!!

New mommy!

So while we were screaming our heads off over VJ Isak and Evan, we didn't know that our dog Lynah was already giving birth.

Poor baby!

Mommy told us that she gave birth to six puppies though only five lived. =( We do hope that they will not end up like her first babies.

Here she is with her cute puppies.

Spare Tire!!!

I know many of you are becoming crazy over Lee Min Ki because of Dalja's Spring currently showing at GMA7.

But...I got to know him first. haha!

Gah! I look ugly (look at how big my face is compared to them) but Lee Min Ki is definitely cute (even with the mushroom hair) and Eugene is so pretty.

Just ignore this post...I just felt like bragging. hehehe!

One down, two more to go!!!

My first class report in AS 210 was done today...woot! woot! It was okay I guess. I was really nervous since last week because our course timeline was changed.  I was supposed to report on June 26 in the original sched but it was moved one week earlier because Prof. Tadem's Korea trip was cancelled. Why? why? why? I was half wishing for our class not to push through but then, I don't want to prolong my agony until next week.

I think the change was a good thing since I have two weeks to prepare for our term paper proposal instead of just one week. Which reminds me, it is due on July 10. Waaah! I still haven't thought of a topic yet. *sigh*

I just noticed that I really work best under pressure. hahaha! I was only able to analyze Mohamad Mahathir's Western Modernism vs Eastern Thought yesterday while doing the powerpoint presentation when in fact, I already read it thrice and even made an outline about it.

So for this subject, I only have to finish my term paper, do another report near the end of the sem and be active in class discussion to pass.

Aja!

It's Official

Yey! It's official. I'm finally a regular employee who's going to observe a five-day work week. The message was relayed to us just today and it turns out, I've got a lot of leaves. Another yey for that! I shall reserve it for future use...hehe.

First Day High

First day of school anxiety is now over. After going to school for 20 of my 23 year existence, I never thought that I would be very nervous during my first day of class but I actually did. It is mainly because of the expectation that comes when you say that you are taking up a graduate course and the fact that I don't know anyone in my would-be classes. I am not really very good at socializing and I am afraid that I will not have friends. I don't think I would have survived my freshman days at UP without Chema's help. Chema and I both came from the same highschool and passed the same course at UP which made us blockmates.

Me, the person with zero social skills, only talked to Chema during breaktime. That was because I thought everyone else came from the same school which made them friends already. But through Chema's help, I became friends with Jeng, Mites, Wendz and Mhel who are my buddies up until now.

So back to my first day at class, I thought I was going to be late because of the heavy downpour which caused some traffic jam. I kept on praying that the professor won't be there when I arrive. When I entered the classroom, my professor was not yet around and I saw someone I knew. My co-interviewee was in the same class as mine. We talked and encouraged each other a lot before our interview while waiting for our turn. Thank God I knew someone even though I cannot remember her name back then (sorry Kat if you accidentally read this) but I cannot explain the relief that came over me. I am not going to be alone.

It was much easier on my second class because some of my classmates were from the other class. I was able to talk to them and get to know them better. It was funny knowing that I was not the only one who is clueless about our term paper. I'm glad to have friends who will share the same hardships in the next two years at graduate school.

So now that the first day of school is finally over, I am ready to face the challenges that comes with graduate school (with God's help of course!)
